ABOUT ME
Hiya!
I'm Ali Benice, and thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Having studied product design and graphic design, I began my career as an artist and storyteller in 2012 by making illustrations and translations for publishing houses, mainly working on children's books. And unlike what the science says, everything did NOT start with a Big Bang for me... At least not in a Discworld sense.
But rest assured, I do have style!
I mainly focus on novels, game narrative scripts, and comics. Experienced in writing humor and horror for kids and adults, one can say I am the love child of Stephen King and Dr. Seuss. Things could never work between those two geniuses, but at least you have me!
I also have a long-running background in TTRPGs as both a player and a game master, having crafted my own universe with unique rules, nations, cultures, myths, technologies, landscapes, and magic systems.
So basically, if you ever feel like throwing a Halloween-themed treasure-hunting party for your kids' birthday, I'm the clown to hire.
I began working as a writer/artist in the games industry in 2020, having created narratives, art, and UI assets for Aeterna Ludi's FEW NIGHTS MORE, PIKA Game Studio's JOIN TILES, Good Game Design Folks' RISE ACHLYS (in production), and Ready4Player's AZADI ONLINE (in production). I have three published books and two literature awards received from TUDEM Publishing House's annually held competition. And yes, the books are all in Turkish. But if my writing got you this far, I must be doing something right in English as well, right?
I can wear more hats than the Mad Hatter! Plus, I'm mostly sane. As a game writer and narrative designer, my experiences lie in creating worlds and characters, writing dialogues, building storylines, establishing lore, depicting cutscenes, aiding art teams, and directing the voice-acting processes. In virtue of my illustration skills, I often participate as an art team member as well by creating storyboards for cutscenes, props for environments, UI elements such as icons, and concept art pieces.
At the moment, I create game art, narrative design, and all necessary story elements for Rise Achlys, being built by an ambitious start-up company named Good Game Design Folks who have recently graduated from BUG Lab TEKMER's pre-incubation mentorship program. Aside from that, I write TTRPG adventure module stories and make map illustrations for The MAD Network as an on-contract member of the team. I also continue to improve my craft by working simultaneously on two different novels and comic books.
Too many projects, not enough time, and no rest for the wickedly virtuous.
